Abstract
Foreign Investment in China began with the British Empire’s acquisition of Hong Kong in 1842. By the 1930s China was being invaded by the Empire of Japan, as well as fighting an internal civil war with the communists led by Mao Zedong. In the 1960s China’s only foreign investment or trade came from the Soviet Union, but even that arrangement was terminated after Mao Zedong and Joseph Stalin had personal conflicts.
