Harris “Black” Dudoit was born in 1948, in Ho‘olehua, Moloka‘i where he lived primarily with his grandparents. He describes life in Moloka‘i as hard work, making sure to always help his family wherever work needed to be done. Black boarded at Lahainaluna from the time he was a freshman, where he worked in the laundry, yard division, and construction. He reflects on his time at Lahainaluna, describing how the school fostered values such as respect and honesty. After highschool, Black joined the military and served in the Vietnam War, having the opportunity to go to Thailand. He worked for a long time with the gas company in Moloka‘i before retiring after 36 years. He currently lives in Kaunakakai, Moloka‘i with his wife, and is a father of 3 boys and a girl.
