Abstract
The foundation for the maternal-infant relationship is set early in the postpartal period, from the first few hours after birth through the first two weeks. Lack of early, effective bonding can lead to problems in integrating the baby into the family unit, with possible severe psychopathology and/or child abuse as outcomes.
