dc.description | This item includes a segment of a student interview in a Writing Intensive course in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The interview was conducted in 2014, and in this clip the interviewee is responding to the question 'Were your relationships with classmates, the campus, Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, or the Pacific changed in any way? Do you see your major or your educational experience any differently as a result of it?'
dc.description.abstract | Brief excerpt from interview: Yup, I met a couple students who I got really close with and still talking to. My relationship to Hawaii? Definitely, because a lot of what we did, a lot of the case studies were here in Hawaiʻi. We even had speakers come in to talk about the historical buildings in downtown Honolulu. A woman came in to talk about alternative energy, and it gave me that broader scope . . . I do [see my major differently], mainly because as a natural resource planner – my specialization – I wasn’t exactly sure what that would entail. But after taking the class, I got a taste for it as well a reinforcement that that's something I’m interested in.
