Abstract
Julian Rotter developed a social learning theory which describes the degree to which an individual believes that reinforcements are contingent upon his own behavior. As individuals perceive their outcomes either as a result of their own behavior or that of external forces of which they have no control, they behave accordingly. Individuals who tend to perceive events to be beyond their personal influence and control are referred to as having an external locus of control (externals). Conversely, individuals classified as being high in internal locus of control are persons who believe they have control of situational and life outcomes (internals). The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between locus of control attitudes and occupational choice.
