Abstract

Description

This presentation demonstrates an approach to learning and teaching Kwak’wala (Kwakwa̱ka̱’wakw) and ḥiḥiškʷiiʔatḥa (Nuu-chah-nulth) that honors the worldview, literal meanings and metaphors embedded in these related languages. Through consultation with fluent speakers and language teachers, the researchers explore ways to apply this knowledge in culturally relevant ways to support adult learners of their Indigenous language(s).
