dc.description.abstract Knowledge and understanding of cultures other than one's own has become imperative in this age of advanced communication technology. The various media bring people of different persuasions in contact with one another. Throuh the media, peoplecan stay home yet still be able to learn about people and events that affect them; even if they occur in other parts of the world. And increased "culture-contact" whether in person or through the media, has caused an equal increase in the concern over the nature and consequence of such interaction. The development of theories in intercultural communication and culture learning grew from this concern and is indicative of Marshall McLuhan's "global village". Traces of our shrinking world is evident in countries like the US, a "village" where various ethnic groups live as neighbors in their distinct ways. en_US
