Abstract
This video evaluates the operational trade-offs between Right Ascension/Declination (RA/Dec) point target deconfliction and Fixed Field of View (FFoV) spatial tiling for Robo-AO-2 operating with a 0.1° keep-out-cone (KOC) half-angle on UTC 2026 February 6. The animation demonstrates that while FFoV tiling eliminates the need to submit nightly target lists, the larger spatial footprint of FFoV regions causes additional target closures (yellow points) compared to narrow point targeting, resulting in a minor open-time efficiency reduction (~2.5% for short exposures, ~4.4% for 1800 s exposures).
Description
An animated video displaying a polar sky map above 40° elevation showing Fixed Field of View (FFoV) target regions for Robo-AO-2 on UTC 2026 February 6 with a 0.1° keep-out-cone half-angle. Background FFoV tiles are colored light blue where safe/open and white where closed to laser propagation. Overlaid on the sky grid are discrete circular points representing simulated astronomical targets arranged in declination rings: green circles indicate targets open in both RA/Dec and FFoV modes; yellow circles indicate targets open in RA/Dec mode but closed under FFoV tiling; red 'X' marks indicate targets closed under both modes. The animation updates every second over the observing night, showing how moving white closure zones interact with point targets and spatial tiles.
