Lily Filimino was born in 1941 and raised on Lānaʻi, but it wasnʻt until she moved to Maui that limu became an integral part of her life. Filimino’s older sister, Violet Santos, who lived in Kīhei taught her everything she knows about gathering limu. Lily raised her family in Kahului, gathering limu on the shores of Naska Beach and along the shorelines of Kīhei. Lily shares how she likes to eat limu, and the salty, savory flavor of limu, onion, and tomato has become a staple in the Filimino household.
