Abstract
Companies engaged in global tuna transactions fall into three general categories: 1) small companies within a domestic industry whose activities are confined to a single country; 2) relatively large specialist companies (e.g. Japanese fishing companies) which may have international operations; and 3) very large multinational corporations (e.g. Star-Kist, Safcol, C. Itoh) which are often divisions or subsidiaries of larger food production companies. This report examines general business activity in tuna markets, and in particular operations of the multinational corporations which dominate global tuna transactions.
