Abstract
Teachers are facing severe criticisms from all fronts, including the home front, the educational establishment. We have been labeled "teachers without a conscience"* by Edward D. Eddy, the president of Chatham College. Eddy maintains that teachers are without social consciences because they consider knowledge and scholarship as inert, timeless and without personal connection. They suffer from the failure to recognize the social connection between truth and the human animal. Alfred North Whitehead also warned the public to beware of inert ideas. Inert ideas are "ideas that are merely received into the mind without being utilized, tested, or thrown into fresh combinations."
