Abstract
Description
Genre: Myth. Title: Mbu no’o Benge (Mbu and Benge) A tale about ancestors, first arrivers Mbu and Benge who left mainland Flores because of a volcanic eruption. On Palu'e they arrived att Watu pou (a rock that was a boat until arrival, or here, coconuts) like in other first arrive tales. They continued to Woto, and walked around and named the island's different places (adat names), also similar to in other ancestor origin tales from the island. Recorded with the AT2020 mic in the home of Lakimosa Bangu, kampong Woto, early afternoon 5 Feb 2015, upon my first visit to Woto. I came with Petrus Tanga whom I had talked to and recorded a few days before. We were about a dozen people chatting outside for a couple of hours, getting to know each other, and waiting for lakimosa Bangu to recover from a night of ritual wake with palm gin. Present and listening were also Sawer Raga and Petrus Tanga.
