Description

Genre: Medicine/huru. Mama Nggei, a grandmother who lives alone in a hut in kampong Mata Mere, was recorded by Pidhu Sophune 3 Jan -13 in the morning, using the AT Lavelier mic (loud, keep volume low). In this recording she first speaks about her 'huru' generally. Then she continues with 'huru sa'a'. Symptoms: . Materials: 'moro', 'seku' (BI. kencur) and 'sa'a', chewed with areca nut, piper betel, and lime. The cure is repeated up to five times. When people are cured they pay, 'peju, cega', with a small sum of money. When 'peju', Nggei only chews paddy grains and puts it on the ill/aching part of the body, five times, while she utters 'bhulu', blessing, an odd one. With a few neighbours sitting by listening, among them Mama Heje who ocommented. In the end Pidhu asks if others may listen to the recording, as usually, and is met by laughter.
