Karen Watson-Gegeo’s plenary talk, presented at the 4th Pacific Second Language Research Forum (PacSLRF) conference, lays out the issues involved and argues for a language socialization paradigm for second language acquisition that is consistent with and embraces new developments in second generation cognitive science, first language acquisition studies, cognitive anthropology, and human development research.
