Abstract
Description
Kimo Alama Keaulana is a kumu hula, performer, and educator originally from Mānoa, Oʻahu who currently lives in Nānākuli Homestead. From a young age, Keaulana was surrounded by Hawaiians who taught him mele and hula. With a natural inclination for the stage, he performed with many musical groups and in different Waikīkī shows as a teenager and young adult. After attending Kamehameha Schools, he worked in hotels and as a musician for many years in Chinatown and Waikīkī during the 1970s and 1980s. Keaulana obtained a degree in Education from UH Mānoa and became an educator that also trained other educators. After his retirement from the Department of Education, Keaulana became the kumu ʻike Hawaiʻi of Punahou School.
