dc.description.abstractHawaii is dangerously dependent on imported oil to fuel its economy. To reduce this risk, the state government enacted the Hawaii Clean Energy Initiative which mandates a switch to 70% clean energy by 2030. About 30% of this conversion must come from energy efficiency improvement and 40% from renewable sources [1]. This thesis is dedicated to using the wireless sensor network technology to monitor each electric appliance that is connected to a building power grid. Building managers or occupants can easily access detailed power consumption data to detect energy waste and therefore adjust their energy usage and improve building energy efficiency. In this project, we contributed the design methods of system integration, energy sensor node hardware and firmware integration, data collection tool chain, database construction and web-based graphic user interface (GUI) for power profile visualization.
