Abstract

Joella was a college freshman enrolled in a six-week summer session section of ENG 100, an expository writing course. After discovering that she could barely produce two sentences per her for her first assignment, Joella turned to a close friend, and then to a few relatives, for aid. Joella managed to give her instructor a two-page essay but only after working on the assignment for over two weeks. Becoming backlogged with other course work, she found nearly all of her following essays as difficult to complete as the first, and none met her expectations for quality. When asked why she had not discussed her situation with the inĀ structor, Joella replied that he would not have understood the tortuous apprehension she felt over writing.
