Subtle bodies

Abstract

Subtle Bodies, is an exhibition of work that is driven by a specific creative process and selection of materials designed to deepen my understanding of human desire. I have applied practices of Āshtanga yoga to my life and my artistic process as a method of research of the sensory, emotional and cognitive processes that lead to human knowledge and action. The materials I use in painting have innate properties and qualities that are described by Vedic and Hindu cosmology. They represent the five elements: earth, water, fire, air and space, and are used as a way to explore the balance and imbalance of energies that naturally occur between these elements. By using my creative process as a practice of desire-less action, I am able to see the relationship between sensory experience, cognition, emotion, memory and behavior.
