Abstract

Brief excerpt from interview: I’m also interested in teaching, I have some experience doing that . . . Teaching swim lessons at the YMCA, and English classes over the summer. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed. I’ve been looking for way to fuse my interests in environmental studies with education . . . So right now my goals are to apply for Teach for America, so I can explore to see if I enjoy teaching. After that 2 year commitment, I want to go to graduate school to pursue something a little more specific in the environmental field – I’m very passionate about that. I like the idea of nonprofit, educational organizations. As a teacher you have to know how to write, how to critically read – those two go hand in hand. If I want to do anything in the nonprofit sector, then grant writing would be part of that. In general, in the professional world, even in emails, you have to know how to write.
