Abstract

Description

Genre: Medicine/huru. Anastasia Roja, kampong Wolo ndopho, Edo (Hedho) domain explains about her 'huru wuthu kenane'. This 'huru' is hung, using a small plaited lontar mug,'nera', in the plantation among jambu, coconut and such, with a plaited 'dhupa', a small lontar form for rice. Roja sharpens a 'hao' bamboo for the cure. The cure uses the 'dhupa' and 'nera', pierced with the bamboo before, asking for health. Then the usual areca nut and piper betel (with lime) (sirih pinang) is applied on the skin outside where it hurts, the stomach. 'Huru' is/causes severe pain in the liver. With 'bhulu wa'o', the adat prayer that helps to expel the disease ('huru'). 'wuthu kena' also means thorn fish, and Fidelis Baga's huru wuthu kena reall does use thorn fish. Confusing. Recorded by Pidu Sophune (Ebbe) 21 Oct 2015 on his second visit to Roja. using the AT Lavelier mic (keep your volume low). Decent recording, only one touch disturbance. See portrait, pictures.
