In a candid account, a California-born woman discusses her family background, education, marriage and divorce, and children. After teaching in Truk, she worked at Palama Settlement from 1963 to 1979. She describes its philosophy, Pakolea Program, in-community treatment program, youth program based on Hawaiian beliefs, neighborhood development, and the settlement's contributions to the community.
