Abstract
Description
Genre: Weaving. Title: 'Weavers’ histories and methods' (8. Mama Bhure. b. approx. 1960). Recording and interview with Mrs. Bhure (originally from Woja, desa Lidi, Palu'e, now living in Nangahure, Flores). Mama Bhure tells about her life as a weaver, and including of her mother. She does not remember her grandmother's weaving because she was too old for weraving when Bhure was a child, but she remembers her grandmother spinning cotton yarn. Her mother had a chance to work in the old ways, but soon ’wantex’ dyes became popular. Palu’e dye methods anre described in the previous recordings (metadata) and in the article Palu’e ikat […] (Danerek and Danerek 2020), and hopefully more detailed in an upcoming article by this author. Bhure’s mother wove Palu'e and Flores cloths, to give the wifetakers (weta hina), personal wear and fiunally for selling. Bhure is not part of a weaver’s collective but works independently and including with natural dyes. Present were also Bhure’s daughter, Vhara Kula, a university student, who helped with the video recording (not uploaded). Recorded by SD with Vhara in the afternoon 27 Jan 2024 in Mama Bhure’s home with a H4N Zoom audio recorder. We also used recorded video wth a Canon EOS. Vhara aided with annotations for a while until she got too busy with her study program. See also items SD1-329 – SD1-331, SD1-337 – SD1-339. The annotation work was supported by a Firebird Foundation Supplemental Research Grant for the Documentation of Oral Literature and Traditional Ecological Knowledge.
