dc.description | This item includes a segment of a student interview in a Writing Intensive course in English at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The interview was conducted in 2014, and in this clip the interviewee is responding to the questions 'What elements of your writing performances would you identify as weak or less than successful, and why?' and '(How) did this course change you as a person, as a writer, as a scholar, if at all?'
dc.description.abstract | Brief excerpt from interview: There was a poem about the walk between my apartment and campus ... was struggling with that, wrote, but then left it ... I didn't perform it in class, so I didn't have feedback ... I didn't want to think about how I was living at the time ... my other classes, I had other stuff to focus on ... as a person the course changed me to think more about the concept of home ... opening up my mind to different ideas of home ... as a writer, if you love writing, just write ... it has gotten me to write a lot more ... I type it on my phone when something comes to mind ... writing outside of class ... helped me get through losing friends ... it has helped me to revise ... a classmate helped me out a lot [on a different paper] to see what reading I needed to do ...
