This item includes a segment of an instructor interview in a Writing Intensive course in Animal Science at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The interview was conducted in 2014, and in this clip the interviewee is responding to the question 'What elements of your syllabus and classroom plans reflect a place-based approach?'
Brief excerpt from interview: [The course] is designed around developing an entire swine production plan... We used to do this as a make-up-a-farm project and students came back with all kinds of far-flung ideas which had no connection in reality... I found farms on the island that were willing to work with the students... and students had to describe the farm that they worked with... That was the point, that they could see... more than one answer.
