Abstract

This video demonstrates the compounding reduction in laser availability when combining a large 2.5° keep-out-cone (KOC) half-angle with Fixed Field of View (FFoV) spatial tiling for Robo-AO-2 deconfliction on UTC 2026 February 6. Compared to the 0.1° KOC case, the animation shows extensive white closure bands that block vast swaths of sky, leading to severe open-time losses across both point targets and spatial tiles, with overall open time falling to 8.3% for 1800 s spectroscopic integrations.

Description

An animated video displaying a polar sky map above 40° elevation showing Fixed Field of View (FFoV) target regions for Robo-AO-2 on UTC 2026 February 6 with a 2.5° keep-out-cone half-angle. Background FFoV tiles are colored light blue where safe/open and white where closed to laser propagation. Overlaid discrete points represent simulated astronomical targets in declination rings: green circles (open in both RA/Dec and FFoV), yellow circles (open in RA/Dec, closed in FFoV), and red 'X' marks (closed in both). As time progresses, large convolved white closure regions sweep across the sky, causing widespread red 'X' and yellow closures, particularly in southern declination bands near the geosynchronous satellite ring.
