Abstract

The Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs (CIPA) was established at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in September 2022 with the support of Congressional funding. This report highlights some of the activities from its first two years, focusing on research, events and engagement, and professional development and training. During this time, CIPA has produced important research on emerging security issues, regional responses to strategic competition, and the governance of the global commons. To foster dialogue on important issues, CIPA has hosted 26 events bringing together around 1,200 people. It has facilitated other kinds of engagement with visiting scholars, policy experts, and government officials in Hawai‘i during this period, in addition to conducting outreach elsewhere in the US and abroad. CIPA has also supported the creation of new professional development opportunities for students through the Indo-Pacific Affairs Internship Program, the Indo-Pacific Policy Lab, and other initiatives.
