Abstract

This TSTAR report contains activity summaries of 30 projects in the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii, and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Guam. The mission of the Pacific Basin Group is to focus resources through research on the organisms, environments, and processes for the tropical and subtropical agricultural systems of the American-affiliated Pacific Basin. The mode of research is to strengthen the research capacity of the Basin institutions and facilitate the transfer and use of results. The primary emphasis is on improving small-scale agriculture systems for food and feed production. Research activities in general are fundamentally oriented, as well as applied. Projects deal with problems which may bring solutions to critical areas as well as develop new opportunities for agricultural production and marketing in the tropics and subtropics of the Pacific Basin. Project categories are crop, pest and disease, resource, and livestock management, physiology and molecular biology, and information systems.
