Abstract

Description

Genre: Oral history/tradition. Title: Ngile nolone (Lightning in the past). Paula Paji tells about how people in the past averted lightning, with a ritual inside the house, cutting the hair and burning it in a coconut shell with burning coconut fibre inside it. Then throwing it 'lau', towards the sea, and uttering an adat prayer. From a longer recording/interview where she also tells about school, her house and the priests in the 1950s. I also recorded her 'huru' (ngiru huru, traditional medicine). Recorded with the H4N Zoom by SD in the morning 23 June 2015 sitting by the table at the bamboo veranda next to the family's house.
