| dc.description.abstract | In the 21st century school leaders need to be innovative to help meet the needs of students and to prepare them for an ever-changing future. This study examines the characteristics and practices of the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) Digital Principals of the Year. The goal of this research was to explore the unique characteristics and practices of Digital Principals. It uses an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design to incorporate both qualitative and quantitative data to explore the backgrounds and stories of these innovative school leaders. Grit and mindset were assessed along with demographic information in the quantitative dimension. A case study of four digital principals allowed to delve deeper into the hearts and minds of school leaders. The findings suggest that Digital Principals have a passion to improve the educational experiences of students, promote the growth of faculty members, and use sound leadership strategies mixed with a bit of technology. Digital Principals are well-connected with other educators through social media where they learn, share, and borrow ideas. The needs of students, staff and parents also guide leadership-driven change processes. New ideas are grounded in creativity and the ability to persevere. The innovation that results is transformative and empowering. | |
