Abstract
This paper takes a look at annexation proposals between 1842 - 1872 of New Zealand, the Society Islands, Fiji, and Samoa. The study seeks to show why these proposals were made, by whom, and why they did or did not succeed. It deals primarily with proposals for annexation in southern Polynesia and the Fiji Islands.
