Abstract
Description
Genevieve Leilani Aken, born in 1968 and raised on the Waiʻanae Coast, O‘ahu, is a 1986 graduate of Lahainaluna High School. The boarding program at Lahainaluna significantly shaped her life, with many of her fondest memories stemming from her time as a boarder. In the interview, Lei reflects on the lasting memories she made at the school, emphasizing the pride and work ethic instilled by the program, and the lifelong friendships she formed. During her years at Lahainaluna, she did various duties, participated in FFA, and made history as the first female boarders' president. After graduating, she earned a bachelorʻs of science degree from UH Hilo, returned to O‘ahu to teach at Wai‘anae High School, and later obtained both a master's and a doctoral degree in education from UH Mānoa.
