Abstract

The recent and rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has impacted many different fields of research, leaving many uncertain about the future of their respective studies. This paper questions and explores the impact of AI technology within the art community by examining various studies and arguments from non-artist humans who consume art, as well as a few artists. Current research suggests that art is still viewed as a primarily human activity, likely due to anthropocentric worldviews and framing of the topic. AI technology has been seen by some as capable of surpassing human creativity while others believe it is still unable to replicate human creativity. Credit for the creation of AI-generated artworks has mainly fallen to human contributors rather than to AI. In consideration of these elements, some researchers suggest that human interaction with AI is vital in order to develop a constructive discussion. As AI technology is still a new resource, its future within the art community remains uncertain, with complex and varying views on the subject. Though there are many studies and research papers that discuss the public's opinion on AI, the scholarly side of the AI art debate lacks certain perspectives. As a human artist myself, I suggest that the perspectives of human artists could provide more guidance to further develop constructive conversation on AI art within the art community.
