Genre: Medicine/huru. Matteus Mboi, small kampong Tethu reti, Uwa, explains his 'huru pathe' and how he arrives at the conclusion that the affliction is 'huru pathe', or something else. For this he uses an egg in a ritual, which reveals where and what the disease of a person is, is it 'huru pathe' or tumor/cancer? The cure to the disease/affliction 'huru pathe', swollen inside stomach, usualy acquired from stealing fruits from fruit trees, or from digging yams, that Mboi has 'huru', charged/cursed. The cure to the severe swollenness in the stomach is 'pathe'; the roots, chewed with areca nut, piper betel, lime and 'kaliraga' root, and garlic and red onion. A coin and seven paddy grains are first pressed to the stomach. (His wife can chew and apply the medicine). With a long traditional prayer, 'bhulu wa'o', from c. 2:51. The application of the chewed mixture is repeated five times during 24 hrs. Then there is still ritual with coconut and paddy grains, 'ngiru siko' (throw away the bad). The victim is showered with coconut water and Mboi throws paddies behind him toward the setting sun. When the patient is well, all the clothes she was wearing are also thrown in the direction of the setting sun, together with paddy grains. Finally all the clothes the patient was wearing are thrown away as well, and Mboi washes the skin. Recorded by Pidhu Sophune (Ebbe) 8 Nov 2015 outside of Mboi's home at 3 pm with the AT Lavalier mic (unfortunately, because the recordings are too loud, noisy, affected by wind and touch, yet we decided to keep and use them).
