Abstract

Description

Genre: Medicine/huru: Teresia Nona, kampong Wolo Habi, desa Maluriwu, tells about her huru, huru pathe. It uses 'pathe' (a tree) root, kaliraga root and ginger. The ingredients are chewed with betel (sirih pinang). Nona's different 'huru' all used 'kaliraga' root. 'Huru pathe' is used to protect fruit trees from theft. 'Pathe' leaves are combed with 'hepi' (comb) and then cut and hung in a tree. Symptoms: severe swollenness. The cure is applied onto the swollen areas by fingers and mouth. The last part of the cure, before payment, is 'siko' (throw rice to the west facing the east, holding it up, while money are placed on a 'bama'), using a small coconut and pouring its water (over the patient or behind her), and 'bhulu wa'o', a kind of prayer to ask the evil/disease to go west and stay there. Recorded by Ebbe (Pidhu) at Nona's home late in the Sunday afternoon 1 Nov -15 with the AT Lavelier microphone. Present were also grandchildren (?) Virsen, Belfas and Wera. Nona also told two fairy tales on the same occasion.
