dc.description.abstractThis study examined a new stair climb task to determine anaerobic power. Fifty-eight football players volunteered to participate (mean ± SD age = 20.2 ± 1.8 yrs, ht = 184.1 ± 7.7 cm, wt = 102.5 ± 19.4 kg). Subjects were tested for vertical jump, 1-RM bench press, 36.6 M dash, and the Hawaii Anaerobic Power Test (HAPT). Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were used to determine test-retest reliability for the HAPT (ICC values for average and peak power were 0.94 and 0.85). ANOVA was used to test for group differences. Average and peak powers were: 1452.0 ± 132.8, 1674.5 ± 300.8; 1519.2 ± 191.8, 1712.6 ± 251.5; and 1263.0 ± 195.6, 1388.6 ± 251.5 W; for the LB, LINE and SKILL groups, respectively. The LB and LINE were found to be more powerful than the SKILL group. It was concluded that the HAPT was a valid and reliable test.
