Abstract
This thesis discusses one aspect of missionary work in the Pacific during the early nineteenth century -- the occurrence of religious revivals in Polynesia under Protestant missionaries of the London Missionary Society and the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. The L.M.S. work centers on the Society Islands beginning in 1797, and the A.B.C.F.M.'s arrival at the Sandwich islands in 1820 is also examined.
