It is quite clear that the few western scholars working in the eld of language documentation will not succeed in documenting the immense diversity of the world’s endangered languages (cf. Florey/ Himmelmann 2010, among others). is paper reports on the experiences and challenges in putting together the CELD Papua corpus in a collaborative effort of capacity-building measurements for local university students and community language activists at the Centre for Endangered Languages Documentation (CELD) in West Papua (Indonesia).
