Abstract

Description

Verna Eguires was born in Wahiawā, Hawaiʻi on April 30, 1966 to parents Lucio B. Brioso Jr. and Ermelinda Blossom Caracol. Aunty Verna is the eldest of five girls and calls Waialua and the North Shore of Oʻahu home. She attended Sunset Elementary and later Kahuku High and Intermediate School. Growing up in Waialua, she first learned how to farm vegetables and raise animals. Both sides of her family were not strangers to growing and raising their own food. This knowledge of farming from a young age drove Verna to pursue ranching as a career later in life with her husband Paul. Aunty Verna shares with us her lineage and upbringing on the north shore and the family influences she’s carried with her throughout the years; sewing, life skills, and financial literacy.
