Abstract
Hawaii, no longer the child, must face the responsibilities of a growing metropolis beset by transportation problems. Today more than 300,000 cars cram 1,200 miles of highway on Oahu, polluting the air with hydrocarbons, carbon monoxides, and nitrogen oxides. This expensive, hazardous, and often outmoded means of traveling is destined to be outgrown by progress. Let it be now for we desperately need the change to an efficient mass transit system.
