An Exploratory Study of Type of Anesthesia Administered and Postoperative Complications of the Alcoholic Patient

Abstract

The purpose of this research project was to explore if general anesthesia is used more often than regional anesthesia in the chronic alcoholic patient versus the acute alcoholic patient and to determine if' there is a higher incidence of postoperative complications among the chronic alcoholic as compared to the acute alcoholic patient. The reason the investigator decided on such a topic was because of his interest in the field of anesthesia and the higher incidence of alcoholism that is becoming a major social problem faced by society and the health profession today.
