Abstract

The central theme of this dissertation is that it is valid and useful to analyze activities in the home village and in Port Moresby as part of one social system. In other words, Toaripi in the two areas are members of a single, bi-local, field of social relations. Most of the material on which the analysis is based deals with Uritai village and with Uritai villagers in Port Moresby, especially those in Vabukori settlement.
