Abstract
Islands such as the Hawaiian Islands have been of considerable interest to the biologist because of their isolation and high endemism. Most taxonomic groups from both the plant and animal kingdoms have been studied. These studies have in cluded the fungal kingdom which is often overlooked. However, the Basidiomycetes (the class of fungi which possess an unique reproductive organ called a basidium which after karyogamy and meiosis produces basidiospores) have been only cursorily studied.
