Abstract

​​The title “Humpback Whales - The Singer, The Fertilizer, and Carbon Capturer of the Sea” is a creative work highlighting humpback whales. They display cultures comparative to humans and play a fundamental role in the stability of the planet. The artworks consist of discarded human waste that has been collected from the Waimanalo coastline. The discarded objects are transformed into an artistic expression to challenge the conventional narrative of the way we dispose of our objects and materials we consume. Overall, the piece speaks to the devastating impact that humans are having on species like the humpback whales and their ecosystems. Our undervalued objects are being consumed and discarded at an unsustainable rate. Through my art, I hope to emphasize the impact this is having on our world.
