George Kekuawela ʻĀʻī was born in the East Maui village of Kaupō in 1928 and moved to Waialua as a young teen. George briefly worked at the Dole Pineapple Company (Hawaiian Pineapple Company) and as a trucking transporter until he secured employment at various farms and ranches over the years including Meadow Gold Dairy and Kawailoa Ranch.
