Abstract

Lymphocytes, in the' presence of mitogens, are able to undergo blast transformation. This principle is utilized for the analysis of the effects of removal of membrane choline phosphate via treatment with the enzyme phospholipase-C and the addition of C-reactive protein (CRP). Four pertinent and major topics of interest as they relate to this study will be given consideration in this introduction. These four topics include the lymphocyte system, mitogens, biological membranes, and C-reactive protein. Background information concerning these subjects and explanations of their importance in this study are now presented for a more thorough understanding.
