Abstract

Description

Genre: Medicine/huru: Weu Linggo, kampong Cawalo, tells about her 'huru bote hate' (huru putar hati). The ingredients in the cure are si'i' (long grass), 'pathe' (a tree, the root, I guess) and 'mubu' (root, she digs fot it), plus red onion and garlic, chewed with the regular betel (sirih pinang) and lime. The 'huru' is also a curse that protects the fruits on her trees. See picture. She hangs ('teo') that pierced sign in the tree. She crushes five 'pathe' seeds, taken from near the ritual centre ('thubu'), with garlic and red onion, five long grass tops picked from above, five crushed white beans, all chewed with areca-betel (sirih pinang). Symptoms: awful pain in stomach/liver. Recorded with the AT Lavalier by Pidhu 20 Oct -15 at Weu's home. The recording level with this mic was often too high when it was used (mostly October -15) – turn the volume down! Photo of the sign-curse-prohibition. Also portrait in SD1-278.
