dc.descriptionDr. Matthew McGranaghan is a retired Professor of Geography from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. He retired in June 2016. McGranaghan taught Computer Cartography, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, and The Geography of Honolulu. He holds a Ph.D. from SUNY-Buffalo and an M.A. and B.A. from SUNY-Albany. McGranaghan also inspired this oral history project discussing the history of ʻōpelu fishing practices in South Kona with his 1992 photos of ʻōpelu boats along the shoreline.
