Abstract
Description
Genre: Oral history. Lunda Pisane tells about Lobi Pisane for his descendant Pitu (Sopune, Ebbe) who did the recording in their kampong, Mata mere, 18 July -16. Lobi was an extraordinary person, with natural born powers, like a witch. He could bring forth tobacco and betel just by raising his hands with a plate, pointing with a machete. They were many who witnessed this, hundreds of people, some of them, like Lunda, are still alive to tell about what they witnessed several decades ago. Lobi and his friends were also able to trance dance, possessed by an ancestor, in a fire, without getting hurt. And able to pick up burning fire wood without being burnt. Lobi was able to bring things from a far, like tobacco from Maumere, by way of this unexplainable magic (djinn?). And he would share this with his family and friends, smoke, drink, and eat together. Recorded by Pitu with the HN1 Zoom recorder and the AT2020 microphone. Transcribed by Toka Ichal as an assignment of the FEL supported project to teach ELAN to Palu'e youth, practicing directly on yet unannotated recordings. Edited and translated by SD.
