Abstract
Growing up in Hawaii, I spent many summers camping out with friends and at night we always sat around the bonfire. This invariably led to someone telling ghost stories. The stories ranged from "The Man with the Hook Hand" to Hawaiian legends about Pele and Maui. Some were meant to be scary and some were just stories of strange experiences that people wanted to relate. I fell in love with these stories. When it came time to choose a thesis topic, those same stories that have captivated me for so long seemed like the obvious answer. So I set out to collect and examine whatever I could find.
