Abstract

This thesis presents innovative retrodirective array technology based on inter-element phase-and amplitude detection and amplitude compensation, to increase the performance of RF front-end systems. The architecture is capable of autonomous beamforming toward mul-tiple signals of interest, can function in multipath environments, and increases radiation e ciency. The architecture exhibits fast tracking speeds, making it a good candidate for mobile systems. An overview of other antenna systems is described, with special atten-tion given to other phased array technologies. Focus is given to past retrodirective array architectures, serving as benchmarks by which to highlight the bene ts of the presented architecture. This thesis concludes with a suggestion on future research.
